6 Great Tips For Managing Your Incontinence
Millions of people suffer from urinary incontinence in the UK alone so don’t be afraid to seek professional medical help. However, there are also some things that you can do to help manage urinary incontinence:
A Healthy Diet – Extra weight can add pressure on to the bladder or the urethra, causing leaks.
Fluid Intake – Try to drink at least 6-8 glasses (1.5-2 litres) of water a day. Drinking less sounds logical but is actually counterproductive - this can irritate the bladder further.
Practice Pelvic Floor Exercises – Did you know that pelvic floor exercises can minimize or even eliminate incontinence issues? You can even do them whilst stuck in traffic!
Limit Your Caffeine Intake - Caffeine has been linked to bladder problems, so limiting your intake can have a positive effect on your bladder weakness.
Stop or Limit Smoking - We know – it’s hard! But were you aware smoking can have a negative effect on your incontinence issues as well as your general health? By quitting smoking you can reduce coughing which can improve your incontinence problems.
Seek Help – You Are Not Alone!
Remember, although you may feel embarrassed about seeking help, it’s a good idea to see your GP/Continence Nurse if you have any symptoms of urinary incontinence. Incontinence is a common problem and seeing a medical professional can help manage, reduce or even eliminate the issue.
